CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – Law enforcement from several departments participated in Senior Information Day in Cape Girardeau on Thursday.

Dozens of seniors attended to learn from and get to know local law enforcement officials.

SALT – Seniors And Lawmen Together organized the event held at the Eagles in Cape Girardeau.

Alex Broch is the Assistant Chief of Jackson Police Department he talks about today’s event.

This event is for the senior citizens of Cape Girardeau County. We bring them all together and teach them about the latest things that we either deal with or information’s we want to give out the seniors.

Today officers went over different real-life scenarios and talked about situational awareness and mental health…

Like to keep an eye out wherever they’re going or whatever they’re doing like going to Walmart or going to Schnuck’s or anything like that.

Law enforcement also served a fried chicken lunch to seniors and other non-profit organizations also showed up to connect senior cititzens with resources they may need.

Broch shares why this event is important to local enforcement agencies.

It just helps us connect with our community through the senior citizens to get them the help they need. Sometimes they don’t have anybody to kind of rely on or lean on. So were there to have them lean on us and let us help them in any way we can.”

This was the second event held through SALT this year. Broch says the next event will be the senior Christmas party in December.
