Sikeston industries team up for Earth Day cleanup

SIKESTON, Mo., (KBSI) — A group of Sikeston industries are collaborating to host an Earth Day event on Saturday, aimed at cleaning up roadways around the North Industrial Park.

The event, scheduled for April 26, will bring together volunteers from Americold, Do It Best, Unilever, Construction Trailer Specialists and the Missouri Department of Transportation.

Participants will pick up trash and limbs along Highway ZZ, from the railroad tracks to Rose Parkway, as well as along Rose Parkway and at the intersection of Highway ZZ and Highway 61.

The event will begin with coffee and donuts from 8-8:30 a.m., followed by a safety briefing and team assignments from 8:30-9 a.m. Volunteers will then collect trash and limbs from 9 a.m. to approximately noon, with a grilled lunch to follow.

Each participating business is donating resources for the event. Americold is providing water, hot dogs, hamburgers and chips, while Unilever is donating ice cream. Do It Best is contributing vests, eye protection, trash bags and trash pickers.

The Sikeston Department of Public Safety will provide grilling services, and the Sikeston Board of Municipal Utilities will collect the piled limbs.
