Sikeston Public Schools hold assembly educating students and parents on the dangers and legal repercussions of making and sharing school threats

SIKESTON, Mo. (KBSI) – Sikeston Public Schools held an assembly on Thursday September 19, to educate students, parents and teachers on the dangers of reposting, sharing or making school threats.

Sikeston schools is just one of many in the area and around the US that have faced a school threat recently.

According to local law enforcement agencies many of these threats have been unfounded, yet some of these threats have led to the arrest of juveniles.

Chief Juvenile Officer Phillip Warren and Sikeston Police Chief McMillen spoke to Sikeston students grades 5-12 Thursday afternoon about the legal repercussions of making social media threats, and of sharing social media threats.

They expressed to students that every threat made is taken seriously and expressed the importance of reporting not reposting for students and parents.

Sikeston Public School staff along with the juvenile department and police department say they will continue to work to ensure the safety of all students at Sikeston Public Schools.
