South Cape Celebrates: Porch Initiative receives $6,000 grant from Alta Good Deeds Foundation

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI)- In a heartwarming celebration, the Porch Initiative has been awarded a $6,000 grant from the Alta Good Deeds Foundation.
This prestigious honor recognizes Porch as one of 19 exceptional nonprofits across the United States making positive changes for homeowners.
This week, Porch celebrated four families who have achieved their dream of owning a new home.
At the Glenn House in Cape Girardeau, the organization showered the families with essentials, marking a significant milestone in their journey.
“It was truly a blessing to be a first-time homeowner,” said Shunder Spurlock, who had nearly given up on her dream. “Porch had faith in me, and I’m forever grateful.”
Porch began with a vision to revitalize and make vibrant South Cape, providing tools for long-term success.
Executive Director Tameka Randle emphasized the importance of financial sustainability and generational wealth.
The celebration featured family portraits, housewarming gifts, and free services, including:

– A new patio set for Spurlock’s screened-in back porch and more.

Porch has partnered with First State Community Bank to host workshops for potential homebuyers at their Shawnee Park offices.
Spurlock encouraged others to hold onto hope.
“Porch has great people who will come to you, stay with you, and help you every step of the way,” she said.
Randle added, “We provide a service that caters to the families we support. Once you purchase a home through Porch, you become part of the family.”
