STODDARD COUNTY, Mo. (KBSI) – A special prosecutor has been appointed to a Stoddard County case.

Scott County Prosecutor Amanda Oeshe was appointed special prosecutor in a case where the defendant’s attorney is running for the position of Stoddard County Prosecuting Attorney.

Skyler Travis, 32, of Poplar Bluff is charged with sexual abuse in the first degree, related to allegations of repeated non-consensual sexual contact with a male victim.

A warrant for the arrest of Skyler Travis was served on May 20, 2022. On May 26, Dexter Attorney Sawyer Smith entered his appearance to represent the accused sexual offender.

On June 17, the State of Missouri appeared by Stoddard County Prosecuting Attorney Russ Oliver. The defense made a motion for the appointment of a special prosecutor due to the fact that the defendant’s attorney, Sawyer Smith, is currently running for the position of Stoddard County Prosecuting Attorney.

The court granted the motion and appointed Oeshe as special prosecutor.

If convicted, Travis faces up to 10 years in prison and would be required to register as a sexual offender.
