Storms likely Monday into Tuesday (1/1/23)
Monday is going to have a chance for some rain showers on and off during the morning hours. A much better chance for storms with heavy rainfall and a chance for some severe storms moves in during the afternoon and evening hours. Temperatures are expected to be very mild. The record high in Cape Girardeau is 69 set in 2000. We’ll be very close to that!
Stormcast (above) is showing the chance for storms moving into our area by the early evening hours. Heavy rain, damaging wind, hail, and an isolated tornado will be possible.
Heavy rain is most likely out of all the weather threats Monday into Tuesday. Some areas may see 3″ of rain by the time it’s all said and done.
There is a level 1 and 2 Marginal and Slight Risk for severe storms Monday night.
The better chance for severe weather will be to our south in Arkansas, Louisiana and eastern Texas. But we’re on the northern fringe of the severe weather threat, so it’s worth keeping an eye on it.
The tornado potential is highest to our south, but we have a small chance for an isolated tornado in southern Missouri and western Tennessee.
There is also a small chance for hail in our area, with the higher chance to our south.
There is a little bit better chance for damaging wind in our area Monday night. This will likely be our main concern.
We quiet down and cool down on Wednesday. A few more showers will be possible next weekend.
