Superhero luncheon raises money for children’s mental health services

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – The Community Counseling Center will host a luncheon that will help raise money for mental health services for youth.  

COVID-19 pandemic had long lasting effects on children’s mental health.

Across the U.S. more than 200,000 children lost a parent or primary caregiver.

According to the CDC 29% of U.S. high school students had a parent or caregiver lose their job, 55% were emotionally abused and 11% were physically abused.

Counseling can really help children understand their emotions there’s a lot of emotions that come out. Says Alix Gasser, Developmental Director of SEMO NAS-V. 

Michelle Ramsey is the Executive Director for the Community Counseling Center Foundation and she says many children struggle with things like depression, anxiety, or bullying in school.  

“Right now the biggest concern in cape public schools in 10- to 13-year-olds is suicide.”  

‘Superheroes have a heart for kid’s luncheon’ hosted by the Community Counseling Center Foundation will be on Thursday, February 15 Jackson Civic Center at 11:30 a.m.  to help raise money for children’s mental health.

Funds raised through the superheroes have a heart for kids luncheon will go to support 12 different programs for children ages 6 to 21. You can purchase individual tickets online or through the community counseling center. There will be a lunch and a raffle, and sponsorships are still available.”
