Search continues for missing Sikeston woman
SIKESTON, Mo. (KBSI) – As the search for missing 21-year-old Shyann Morrison continues, family and detectives are cautiously hopeful for a positive outcome.
Morrison remains missing after disappearing February 5, 2021.
Morrison’s family and friends notified the Sikeston Department of Public Safety and have been searching for her since.
“It was like I had my heart ripped out,” said Morrison’s mother, Lisa, as she broke down.
Morrison moved to Sikeston from her parents’ home in Texas to be closer to her child. At the time of her disappearance, she was living with Shannon Howard, a relative of her child’s father.
“She was getting her life together,” said Howard. “She had been through a lot.”
But despite the road bumps that came with Morrison’s life, Howard says she was determined to fight.
“She had found her a job, she started going to church and everything, she was getting on the right track, she was really happy and I was happy for her,” said Howard.
In April of 2023 authorities were led to search for Morrison across the Bill Emerson Bridge in East Cape Girardeau.
Matt Cotner is a detective for the Sikeston Department of Public Safety.
“This case has really picked up steam in the last six months,” said Det. Cotner. “I know a lot of people think that some cases are good to blast everything out, but in a case like this, working kind of low profile is the best.”
A previous search took place in the area of St. Jude’s Industrial Park in New Madrid County after investigators received a new lead in the winter of 2022.
Detective Matt Cotner has been on Morrison’s case since 2021, working closely with her family.
“People out there know, and if it was your daughter, you would want us to be doing the same thing,” said Det. Cotner.
Detective Cotner shares the case with Detective Paula Nichols with Criminal Investigations, “We’re going to get this case solved, bring closure to the family, and have someone convicted,” said Detective Nichols.
Lisa Hawkins is Morrison’s mother, who begs for the safe return and closure of knowing where her daughter is.
“Please…Please…I beg you. Please bring us some closure or bring our daughter home,” said Hawkins.
As the search continues for Morrison, authorities, family, and friends ask that if you know something. say something.
