Therapy dog brings comfort to VA hospital patients

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo., (KBSI) — A certified therapy dog is bringing smiles and comfort to patients at the John J. Pershing VA Medical Center.

Bocce, a 4-year-old Labrador retriever, visits the hospital’s Community Living Center unit weekly, providing affection and social interaction to residents.

The therapy dog program, which began about two years ago, has become a highlight of the patients’ week, boosting their mood and providing a sense of connection.

Hospital staff also benefit from Bocce’s visits, which help to brighten the overall mood on the unit.
