Traffic alert: Construction to close lanes at Poplar and Commercial intersection in Harrisburg

HARRISBURG, Ill., (KBSI) — The Harrisburg Police Department is advising drivers to use caution as construction begins on the stoplight system at the intersection of Poplar and Commercial streets.

The Illinois Department of Transportation will begin work March 30, with the first week focused on preparation that is expected to have minimal impact on traffic.

Starting April 6, eastbound and westbound traffic will be closed at the intersection, with detours in place. Northbound and southbound traffic will remain open and operate without signal lights, allowing traffic to flow freely.

The project is expected to take about two weeks. Officials are urging drivers to plan alternate routes and use caution when traveling through the area.
