Traffic stop prompts larger investigation in Cape Girardeau

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — A Cape Girardeau man faces felony charges after police allegedly found more than 19 grams of suspected cocaine during a traffic stop.
An officer stopped a vehicle around 10:15 p.m. Saturday, July 25, near Bloomfield Road and South West End Boulevard for an alleged traffic violation.
Police identified the driver as 42-year-old Adrian Brown. According to the department, Brown said he was on parole and gave officers permission to search his vehicle.
Officers allegedly found a white powder believed to be cocaine inside the center console. Police said Brown ran a short distance when officers attempted to detain him but was taken into custody.
At the police department, officers allegedly saw Brown trying to hide another item containing suspected cocaine beneath the back seat of a patrol vehicle.
Police said the suspected cocaine weighed about 19.43 grams. Officers also seized a large amount of cash.
The Cape Girardeau County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged Brown with delivery of a controlled substance, resisting arrest and failure to stop. He is being held on a $50,000 cash-only bond.
The charges are accusations. Brown is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
