VIENNA, Ill. (KBSI) – Runners from across the country will gather in Southern Illinois on Saturday, Nov. 14, for the 2026 Tunnel Hill 100, which will also host the USA Track & Field 50 Mile Road Championships.

The annual event begins at 7 a.m. at Vienna City Park and features 100-mile, 100-kilometer, 50-mile and marathon races.

Participants will compete along the Tunnel Hill State Trail, a former railroad corridor known for its crushed-limestone surface, gentle grades, scenic bridges and historic tunnel.

The event has become known for fast finishing times, with organizers reporting five world records set at Tunnel Hill since the race began in 2014.

This year’s 50-mile race will serve as the national championship, bringing competitive distance runners to Southern Illinois.

The 100-mile course consists of two 50-mile loops, beginning and ending at Vienna City Park. Runners competing in the 100-mile, 100-kilometer and 50-mile races have a 30-hour time limit.

Organizers say the event also supports local businesses by attracting runners, volunteers and spectators to the region.

The 2026 event will support Arrowleaf, a Southern Illinois nonprofit organization providing behavioral health, developmental and community services.
