Turkey bowling brings Thanksgiving giveaways to Armstrong Outdoors

JACKSON, Mo., (KBSI) — Armstrong Outdoors is combining a friendly competition with help for Thanksgiving dinner, offering turkeys and grocery gift cards during a turkey bowling event Saturday, Nov. 7.
Owner Kevin Armstrong said the idea came from a business in the St. Louis area that held a similar event to help people with holiday groceries.
“They did this and gave away grocery gift cards and stuff for the community and whoever participated so they don’t have to buy groceries for Thanksgiving,” Armstrong said. “So we have hundreds of dollars worth of gift cards coming.”
Armstrong said he also ordered 32 turkeys from Harps for the event. Turkey bowling involves rolling a frozen turkey toward bowling pins.
The competition gives people a chance to enjoy time together while taking home something for their holiday meal, he said.
“So this is a great idea for some people to come out and win their grocery cards for Thanksgiving dinner,” Armstrong said.
For regular customer Larry Burrows, the event reflects the support Armstrong and his wife, Cindy, provide throughout the community.
“Kevin and his wife, Cindy, they do a lot for our community. They do a lot more than people realize,” Burrows said. “Like this. They’re making money for other people, feeding other people.”
Armstrong said he expects a large crowd and will continue adding participants as they arrive.
The grill is scheduled to start around 2 p.m., with turkey bowling and giveaways beginning around 4 p.m. The business will offer its regular menu, along with barbecue, baked beans and chips.
Registration will be open until the event starts, but Armstrong said late arrivals can still join the competition as they get there.
Burrows had one more suggestion for those planning to attend.
“Don’t eat before you come because you got good food here,” he said.
