Two arrested after armed standoff, theft investigation in Lyon County

EDDYVILLE, Ky., (KBSI) — An off-duty deputy with the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office spotted a vehicle connected to recent theft investigations Tuesday afternoon, leading to a standoff and the arrest of two Princeton residents.

At about 4:39 p.m. Feb. 24, 2026, the deputy was at the Dollar General on KY 293 south of Eddyville when he observed the suspect vehicle in the parking lot. Sheriff Brent White responded and attempted a felony traffic stop as the vehicle was leaving the lot.

Authorities said the driver attempted to flee, but White used his cruiser to block the truck’s path. The truck then attempted to push the cruiser into KY 293 but was unsuccessful.

According to the sheriff’s office, the driver refused verbal commands and brandished a handgun in front of a passenger, resulting in a prolonged standoff with law enforcement. A female passenger exited the vehicle during the incident. She was identified as Angela F. Egbert, 48, of Princeton.

Shortly after 6 p.m., the driver exited the vehicle and was taken into custody without further incident. He was identified as Thomas J. Prevatte, 46, of Princeton.

Following an investigation by sheriff’s deputies and the Kentucky State Police, both were arrested.

Prevatte was charged by the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office in connection with the KY 293 standoff with:

  • Attempted first-degree fleeing or evading police (motor vehicle).
  • First-degree wanton endangerment.
  • First-degree wanton endangerment of a police officer.
  • Second-degree criminal mischief.
  • Third-degree terroristic threatening.

In connection with a KY 819 ATV theft investigation, Prevatte was charged with:

  • Third-degree criminal trespassing.
  • Theft by unlawful taking of an automobile ($1,000–$10,000).

In connection with a U.S. 62 East theft investigation, he was charged with:

  • Theft by unlawful taking ($1,000–$10,000), complicity.

He also was served with warrants for:

  • Contempt of court, failure to appear, from McCracken Circuit Court.
  • Probation violation for a felony offense from McCracken Circuit Court.

Additional charges filed by Kentucky State Police related to the KY 293 incident include:

  • Expired Kentucky registration plate.
  • No Kentucky registration.
  • No insurance.
  • Operating on a suspended or revoked license.
  • DUI, controlled substance, first offense.
  • No seat belt.

Egbert was charged in connection with the KY 819 ATV theft investigation with:

  • Third-degree criminal trespassing.
  • Theft by unlawful taking of an automobile ($1,000–$10,000).
  • In connection with the U.S. 62 East theft investigation, she was charged with:
  • Theft by unlawful taking ($1,000–$10,000), complicity.

The vehicle occupied by the suspects had been reported stolen by the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office.

Both were lodged in the Crittenden County Detention Center.

Additional charges are pending from the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office and the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office as the investigation continues. Assisting agencies included Kentucky State Police, the Eddyville Police Department, Lyon County EMS and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Department of Highways.
