VIENNA, Ill., (KBSI) — Vienna residents will continue to have access to free local transportation services through Dec. 31 after city leaders approved an extension of the community shuttle program.
Shawnee Mass Transit District announced the City of Vienna has extended its partnership with the transit agency, continuing free in-town transportation that began in January.
The Vienna In-Town Shuttle operates from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday and provides transportation to destinations throughout the city, including medical appointments, workplaces, shopping centers and other essential services.
Residents must schedule rides at least 24 hours in advance by calling 866-577-6278. Monday trips should be scheduled by the previous Friday.
The program also includes a weekly grocery shuttle to Walmart in Anna. The free service departs Vienna at 9 a.m. every Thursday, allows approximately 90 minutes for shopping and returns riders home afterward. Reservations are required.
Shawnee Mass Transit District Executive Director Michael Pietrowski said the program helps connect residents with healthcare, employment, shopping and other important services.
The transit district thanked Mayor Steve Penrod, City Clerk Aleatha Wright and the Vienna City Council for supporting the program.
