VIENNA, Ill., (KBSI) — Nursing students from Vienna High School recognized healthcare workers during a recent clinical experience at Hillview Senior Living and Rehab.
Students in the school’s orientation to health occupations program distributed Hershey candy bars wrapped with “Healthcare Hero” messages to staff members as a show of appreciation for their work and commitment to patient care.
During the visit, students were also recognized for their efforts in the program. Retired Vienna Superintendent Marlies Trover and current Superintendent Joshua Stafford presented the students with similar tokens of appreciation.
“It was a sweet surprise for the students to be honored as well,” instructor Sherie Smith said.
“Everyone sees how sharp they look in their blue uniforms, but I am not sure the staff and students really understand what these students are doing. It is not all glamorous, but they do it with class and compassion.”
Stafford said the experience highlights the character students are already developing.
“What stood out here is not just the training our students are receiving, but the way they are already demonstrating the qualities that matter most in healthcare — respect, appreciation and a commitment to others,” Stafford said.
The program provides students with hands-on clinical experience while preparing them for careers in healthcare through technical training and professional development.
Students can earn certified nursing assistant licenses through the Illinois Department of Public Health, along with CPR certification and college-level coursework.
