Volunteer Firefighters in Illinois could receive a tax credit for the 2023 tax year

Illinois (KBSI) -Volunteer firefighters may qualify for a tax credit in Illinois.
The credit is worth up to $500.
The credit only applies to part time volunteer fire service emergency workers.
Those working as full-time firefighters receiving compensation do not qualify.
Qualifications for the tax credit are:
-Served as a volunteer fire emergency service worker for 9 months out the taxable year.
-Have not received compensation for your volunteer services over the amount of $5000 for the taxable year.
-Be included on the list provided by your local fire department, district or office to the Illinois state Fire Marshall confirming the previous two requirements.
-Submit an online application with the Illinois Department of Revenue when the application period opens on February 1, 2024.
-Be of the first 10,000 applicants.
