Warming shelters to be open this week

SCOTT CITY, Mo. (KBSI) – A warming shelter will be open for three days this week as temperatures drop below freezing.

The Salvation Army of Cape Girardeau is typically open as an overnight warming shelter during the winter but due to HVAC system issues they are unable to open at this time.

According to Scott City Pastor Bob Lenz the Restoration Community Church in Scott City will be used as a warming shelter on December 10, 11, and 12.

Lenz says due to safety reasons and inability to give background checks they can only accept men at this time.

Men must be age 18 or older.

The church does not offer transportation and can only be used as an overnight warming center.

Doors will open at 7 pm and close by 8 am the next day.

For safety no one will be accepted after 10 pm.

30 spots are available each night and it will be a first come first serve basis.

Restoration Community Church is located at

405 E Main Street and Second in Scott City, Missouri.

Phone number is 573-212-4100.

Sikeston also has a warming shelter available.
