WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Ill. (KBSI) — Several local races and a statewide question will appear on the primary ballot for voters in Williamson County this year.

One race voters will decide is the Republican primary for Williamson County sheriff. Incumbent Jeff Diedrich is seeking the party’s nomination and faces challengers Stan Diggs and Quinn Laird. The sheriff’s race appears only on the Republican ballot.

Voters will also choose party nominees in the county commissioner race. Republicans Ron Ellis, Jim Rasor and Sean Wilson are competing in the GOP primary. Darcy Hemphill is the Democratic candidate and will face the Republican nominee in the November general election.

In addition to candidate races, voters will be asked to weigh in on a ballot question related to education funding. The measure asks whether Illinois should participate in a federal program that would allow privately donated funds to be used for certain academic needs, including tutoring, testing costs, educational therapies, books and other school-related expenses for students in public, private or homeschool settings.

The Illinois primary election will take place Tuesday, March 17.

The primary will determine which candidates advance to the general election on Nov. 3, 2026.
