Zonta Club celebrates passage of Missouri law raising minimum marriage age

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — The Zonta Club of Cape Girardeau is celebrating the passage of a law that raises the minimum age of marriage in Missouri to 18 with no exceptions.

Gov. Mike Kehoe signed House Bill 737 into law on July 9, making Missouri the 16th state to end child marriage.

The Zonta Club, an affiliate of Zonta International, has advocated for ending child marriage worldwide, including in the United States.

The club commended former state Sen. Holly Rehder for drafting the original bill language and Sen. Jamie Burger for carrying the final version in the Senate.
