Spring season could trigger allergies in pets
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – Weather fluctuation and airborne pollen during the spring season could trigger allergies not only in humans but in pets.
Seasonal allergies affect about 10-20% of all pets, making them vulnerable to sickness during weather changes.
“Normally the difference between dogs and cats and humans, is dogs and cats will get itchy whereas humans will get the respiratory, dogs and cats will by itchy,” said Skyview Animal Clinic owner and veterinarian Dr. Sean Byrd. “So, you’ll see everything from them, maybe either licking their paws more, chewing at themselves, scratching. In severe cases they’ll get hair loss and skin infections.”
Byrd says technology and new treatments are available for all pets suffering from allergies and anyone with a pet that experiences these symptoms should contact their local veterinarian.
