Paducah police seize handguns in 2 separate incidents

PADUCAH, Ky. (KBSI) – A Paducah man and a 16 year old face charges after Paducah police officers recovered two handguns in separate incidents on Saturday, April 29. One of the handguns was reported stolen in 2020.
A 16 year old faces charges of possession of a handgun by a minor and discharging a firearm across a public road and with violating Paducah city ordinances regarding curfew violation and shooting a firearm within the city limits.
Tyreck M. Winkler, 23, of Avondale Road, faces a charge of receiving stolen property (firearm).
Police were called about 2:15 a.m. Saturday to reports of five to six gunshots coming from a Ford Mustang in the area of Cherry Street.
A witness said a passenger in the vehicle was shooting out of the car window. Officers stopped the Mustang at Irvin Cobb Drive and Bridge Street. The driver said the passenger, a 16-year-old male, was shooting outside the vehicle because he saw a deer.
Police found a handgun in the glove compartment of the vehicle.
The 16-year-old claimed ownership telling police he found the gun. The juvenile was cited on charges and released to his grandmother.
Then, officers stopped a car on Friedman Lane at 5:15 p.m. on Saturday, April 29.
Police say Tyreck M. Winkler was a passenger and got out of the car. Officers found a 9mm handgun in the waistband of his pants.
A computer check showed the gun was reported stolen from an unlocked vehicle by a Paducah woman January 8, 2020.
Winkler told police he found the gun on Paducah’s north side, but refused to say where.
He was arrested on a charge of receiving stolen property (firearm). Winkler was booked into McCracken County Regional Jail.
Police seized both guns.
The Paducah Police Department reminds citizens to remove valuables such as computers, firearms and cellular phones from their vehicles and to lock their vehicles.
