National Day of Prayer March comes to a Cape Girardeau park

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – Each year on May 4, the Gateway Church in Cape Girardeau and Pastor Ben Porter host the National Day of Prayer March. Those in attendance met in Capaha Park where evangelist James Rowe traveled from southern Indiana.

“Today is the National Day of Prayer and it’s important for our nation to come together,” Rowe said. “My prayer is that a spirit of prayer would fall over the nation.”

Rowe brought along a giant wheeled cross to carry as participants traveled down Broadway toward the Cape Girardeau Courthouse.

“We are taking the crosses and we are going to the courthouse and there are going to be some guest speakers and stuff there,” Rowe said.

Gateway Church Pastor Ben Porter said with elections in the future, the crime rate on the rise, and different laws being passed, now is the time to come together for prayer.

“We believe this is actually spiritual warfare,” Porter said. “We’re just thankful to God that our country, the US, has set aside a day where we can come together and pray.”

The march ended at the Cape Girardeau Courthouse steps and guest speakers took a moment to pray while others bowed their heads in silence.
