MARION, Ill. (KBSI) – A man faces charges after authorities say he threatened sheriff’s deputies with a 12-inch ball peen hammer.

The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office was called to a home for a report of a disturbance on June 13 at 7:51 p.m.

The caller told deputies that Jordan J. Travelstead had been destroying the home and swinging a baseball bat at a family member.

When deputies approached Travelstead, they say he became violent and yelled “Get the @$)& off my property or I’m going to bash you in the head.”

Travelstead was holding a 12-inch ball peen hammer and began walking toward a room in the home where law enforcement knew he had firearms, machete’s, and other weapons.

Deputies commanded he put the hammer down several times and say Travelstead ignored them.

A deputy deployed a Taser from about 15 feet striking Travelstead causing him to release the hammer and fall to the ground.

Travelstead was arrested.

He faces charges of aggravated assault and resisting or obstructing a peace officer.

Travelstead was taken to the Williamson County Jail.
