Marion police investigating after business receives bomb threat

MARION, Ill. (KBSI) – Marion police are investigating after a business received a bomb threat.

An employee at ReaderLink descovered a note on Thursday, June 29 stating a bomb would be detonated at 1:39 pp.m in the “Returns” area of the building.

On Thursday, June 29, 2023, at approximately 10:46am, ReaderLink contacted the Marion Police Department (MPD) in reference to an employee that had discovered a note stating that a bomb would be detonated at 1:39pm in the “Returns” area of the building.

MPD Officers, Marion firefighters, Secretary of State Bomb Squad members, Illinois State Police troopers, and deputies from the Williamson County Sheriff’s Department responded to ReaderLink.

The building was evacuated. Employees were staged at a safe location until they were released to leave the area.

The SOS Bomb Squad with the bomb sniffing K-9 conducted a thorough search of the area with negative results.

The building was determined to be safe. The threat is considered to be invalid, according to the Marion Police Department.

ReaderLink has re-opened and employees have returned to work.

This incident is still under investigation.
