CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – One of the most significant events on the Southeast Missouri State sports calendar is the women’s soccer team’s Donate Life Game.
The annual game is played in honor of former SEMO soccer player Meg Herndon, who was tragically involved in a truck-shooter accident in 2012. SEMO will wear special blue and green uniforms as they take on Eastern Illinois.
Cindy Silvey, Meg Herndon’s mother, will present a check to the Meg Herndon Scholarship Fund at halftime. SEMO will open the game with 10 players and a moment of silence.
Sunday’s kickoff is scheduled for 1 pm at Houck Field.
In other SEMO athletics news, the Redhawks volleyball team capped off their weekend with a sweep of Morehead State. SEMO has now won seven games in a row and will play host to SIU-Edwardsville next Friday and Saturday.
The Southeast Missouri State football team lost its second consecutive one-score game in a 41-38 loss to Eastern Kentucky. The Redhawks fall to 1-3.
The Southern Illinois University volleyball team opened Missouri Valley Conference play with a four-set victory over Illinois-Chicago. The Salukis improve to 9-3 on the season.

In Tennessee, Union City kept rolling with a 42-9 thumping of Greenfield. The Golden Tornadoes now turn their attention to second-ranked Dresden next week, a game that could decide the regional championship.
The reigning Ohio Valley Conference champion SEMO men’s basketball team will return to the hardwood with their first official practice of the season on Monday. The Redhawks will take the court at the SEMO Rec Center at 12:45 pm.
