Man facing several charges after police chase in Williamson County

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Ill. (KBSI) – A man faces several charges after a police chase through Williamson County.

Jonathan D. Terrell faces charges of aggravated fleeing and eluding, criminal damage to state supported property, possession of a stolen vehicle and felony DUI.

Williamson County Sheriff’s deputies were notified on Thursday, October 19 at 5:07 p.m. that Saline County Sheriff’s Office deputies were chasing a stolen vehicle that was traveling west on Illinois State Route 13 from Harrisburg.

The suspect vehicle was originally reported stolen in Shawneetown.

Williamson County Sheriffs’ deputies responded to the area of Illinois State Route 13 at Stilley’s Mill Road where stop sticks were deployed.

The suspect vehicle hit the stop sticks and continued traveling west on Illinois State Route 13 with both driver’s side tires deflated.

Williamson County Sheriff’s deputies positioned to protect citizen traffic at the intersection of Illinois State Route 13 and Illinois State Route 166.

As the suspect vehicle approached the intersection, it abruptly veered toward and crashed with a Williamson County Sheriff’s deputy’s patrol vehicle. The crash caused significant damage to both vehicles.

Terrell was arrested at the scene.

Both Terrell and the Williamson County Sheriff’s deputy were taken to a local hospital out of an abundance of caution.

A second Williamson County Sheriff’s ptrol vehicle was slightly damaged in the crash.

Two civilian vehicles reported tire damage after striking the stop sticks in the median of the road.

Terrell was medically cleared from the hospital shortly after arrival and was taken to the Williamson County Jail.

“I spoke with Sheriff “Whipper” Johnson of Saline County earlier this evening,” said Williamson County Sheriff Jeff Diederich. “We are united in holding criminals accountable, are thankful no one was seriously injured, and committed to team work in fighting crime regardless of where it occurs.”

The traffic crash investigation is being conducted by Illinois State Police due to involvement by multiple other law enforcement agencies.

This remains an ongoing investigation. Additional charges are anticipated.
