HERRIN, Ill. (KBSI) – A man faces several charges after Williamson County Sheriff’s deputies saw him pedaling a bicycle in Herrin.
Michael K. Tucker faces charges of possession of a weapon by felon, resisting a peace officer, fleeing or attempting to elude a peace officer and disobeying stop sign.
Williamson County Sheriff’s deputies saw a bicycle traveling east on Maple Street from an alley way in Herrin around 12:02 a.m. on Wednesday, October 4.
The bicycle rider identified as Tucker was dressed in black with a small bag on his back.
Tucker was in an area of high drug activity and was seen to commit multiple violations of the Illinois Vehicle Code relevant to the operation of bicycles, according to the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies tried a traffic stop by activating the vehicles emergency lighting system. However, Tucker failed to stop and continued to pedal away for several blocks in a manner consistent with attempting to escape, according to the sheriff’s office.
Tucker navigated the bicycle maneuvering around the patrol vehicle as it tried to impede its travel several times, according to the sheriff’s office.
While he was traveling northbound on 17th Street, Tucker lost control of the bicycle while trying to cut in between parked cars on the west side of the street crashing in the road.
He tried to continue to run away on foot but was arrested by Sheriff Diederich and two deputies, according to information from the sheriff’s office.
Law enforcement recovered a STAR 9mm pistol and ammunition.
Tucker was arrested and taken to the Williamson County Jail.
