Carbondale police looking for man accused of impersonating police officer

CARBONDALE, Ill. (KBSI) – Carbondale police officers are looking for a man after receiving a report of someone claiming to be a police officer.
Detectives are looking for Mark A. Crawford, 55, of Pinckneyville. He was found on October 25 in rural Jackson County with the help of the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department.
Crawford faces charges of impersonation a public official and disorderly conduct.
Around midnight on October 24, Carbondale police officers responded to the 400 block of West Main Street regarding suspicious activity.
A caller said a male was noticed outside his/her apartment standing on the porch. When the caller opened the door to see who it was, the man identified himself as a Carbondale Police officer.
Without further explanation, he turned and walked away, saying he was calling for backup. The man left the area in a dark-colored Jeep Cherokee that had lights on the top of the vehicle.
The Carbondale Police Department has no record of any officers in the area at that time and has not identified any other agencies who reported having officers in that area.
This is the only incident involving the possible impersonation of a Carbondale police officer that is currently reported.
