SEMO Health Network provides accessible health care for Sikeston students, staff

SIKESTON Mo. (KBSI) – SEMO Health Network’s school-based clinic provides accessible healthcare for students and staff.

Patients are able to receive school physicals, immunizations, counseling, behavioral health care, men’s and women’s wellness, family medicine, and acute care.

Taylor Altenthal, who is nurse practitioner of the school-based clinic says, “Well visits, we do physicals, we do chronic care, managing blood pressure, asthma, diabetes. Anything you’re going to do at any other clinic.”

Bus shuttles are also available to those in need of transportation to get the proper care needed.

“It allows the parents to not have to take off work. To take their kids in to be seen, whether it be for a sick visit a sports physical, vaccinations, anything like that.” Said Altenthal.

Coverage will tend to everyone’s needs, whether insured or uninsured.

According to Altenthal, “If they have insurance, great, we run it just like anyone does. Medicaid, we see a lot of Medicaid patients, but we also see a lot of uninsured and we do slide fees.”

The clinic became accessible to students and staff at Sikeston Alterative Center and Sikeston High School in 2019.
