Families, friends prepare to honor loved ones on Veterans Day

PERRYVILLE, Mo. (KBSI) – November 11 is Veterans Day which means many families and friends are getting ready to honor their loved ones who have served.
As families gather together to remember those who served we’re finding out the importance of Veteran’s day.
Veterans day was originally known as Armistice day, the Armistice was signed between the allies of World War I, which took effect at eleven in the morning the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month of 1918.
While Memorial day is in honor of those who have served and died, Veterans day celebrated all military service men and women, alive and departed.
Shaply Hunter is a retired Navy vet from Thiebes, Illinois, he and his wife made the journey to the Perryville Memorial Wall for a moment of remembrance.
Hunter says, “We want to take care of the ones who are, actually served both as a, to honor their commitment, and our commitment to them.”
Veteran Rae Lynn Munoz is the Executive Director for the Veteran’s Memorial Wall and shares her thoughts on what it means to be a veteran, “Without our heroes that we call veterans here in civilian community, we wouldn’t have the freedoms in which we have, celebrating Veterans’ day not only honors our veterans of today but those of previous years that paved the way for generations like mine to serve and protect our country.”
A ceremony for Veterans’ day will be held at the memorial on Saturday, November 11th at 11 a-m.
