Man accused of leading sheriff’s deputies on chase with 2 stolen vehicles

CAPE GIRARDEAU COUNTY, Mo. (KBSI) – A man was arrested after sheriff’s deputies say he led authorities on a chase through two counties in two stolen cars.
Perry County sheriff’s deputies began in vehicle chase with a stolen car on Saturday, January 13.
The chase ended and the car was later found abandoned.
The car’s driver from the Perry County chase was suspected to have stolen another vehicle and driven into Cape Girardeau County.
Cape Girardeau police spotted the second stolen car and chased it along with Cape Girardeau County sheriff’s deputies.
However, they ended the chase due to concerns about its potential danger to the public, outweighing the need for immediate apprehension.
The second stolen car was later found abandoned and burned in Stoddard County.
On January 17, Zachary Wipfler was arrested by deputies from the Cape Girardeau County Sheriff’s Office and the US Marshals Fugitive Task Force.
Wipfler had multiple felony warrants out of Cape Girardeau County. Authorities believe that he was also the driver of the stolen car from Perry County and the vehicle involved in the pursuit in Cape County.
Wipfler was being held at the Cape Girardeau County Sheriff’s Office.
Wipfler faces charges of Class D felony – failure to obey judge’s order, original charge – possession of controlled substance, no bond – set by Judge Frank E. Miller; failure to appear – Class D felony, original charges – burglary 2nd, stealing – firearm, unlawful possession of a firearm
no bond – set by Judge Frank E Miller; and (Perry County warrant) felony- stolen vehicle $50,000 cash only bond.
