St. Vincent High School basketball coaches to wear shoes designed by students at Mayor’s Cup games

PERRYVILLE, Mo. (KBSI) – During the Mayor’s Cup basketball games between St. Vincent and Perryville on Saturday, both St. Vincent head coaches will be wearing shoes designed by junior Reese Zoellner and sophomore Jocelyn Weibrecht.
Girls basketball coach Mel Kirn will be wearing the shoes designed by Zoellner.
The theme for this year’s games is “Team Up,” and the shoes not only promote basketball, but mental health awareness.
“It’s a big problem out there, and we just have to step up and help the people who need help,” Kirn said.
Zoellner, who has had mental health struggles in the past, said it means a great deal to her to be able put her art skills on display for such an important cause.
“There are a lot of people who are also going through those tough stages in their lives, and I feel like having this as a representation just helps them out so much,” Zoellner said.
Boys basketball coach Bruce Valleroy will be sporting kicks by Weibrecht, who described the meaning behind her sneakers like this:
Valleroy said supporting a cause like mental health awareness is a step in the right direction.
“Any time you can help in any way with mental health, cancer, whatever it may be,” he said. “We do cancer things for volleyball and different activities, so any time you can be involved and be a little part of it, it means a lot.”
