SCOTT CITY, Mo. (KBSI) – Read Across America Week is celebrated March 2-6.

It begins on the birthday of the well-known Aurthor Dr. Seuss.

The National Education Association encourages children to read and to find the benefits of reading.

Schools all over America take part in festivities that make reading fun.

It’s a week of dress up days and special guest readers.

Scott City R-1 schools joined in on the fun.

‘Masked readers’ dressed up as different characters and read to students in the mornings and on Friday, March 6th members of the community were invited to come out and read to students.

Sarah McClard and Stephanie Lee are teachers at Scott City Elementary who’s classes took part in the reading week.

“We just really want to show the kids that reading is not just a subject that we learn here at school but it’s actually for fun and one of the things we’ve been doing today is bringing people in from our community we’ve had local firefighters, policemen, and cheerleaders from SEMO, and I think it’s just really fun for the kids to see that it’s fun for everyone.” Says Lee.

Sarah McClards Kindergarten Class was all smiles as they talked about their favorite readers and favorite books.

When how they felt about reading week they shouted, “We love Reading!”
