Survivors of storm in Butler County describe the moment the tornado hit
BUTLER COUNTY, Mo. (KBSI) — Emergency responders say they are trying to get help to some people still waiting to get the power back on in Butler and Ripley counties.
Meanwhile, people tell FOX23 News they feel lucky to be alive.
“I said I’m going to look outside real quick,” said Carmen Hoggard. “When I did the sky was absolutely solid green it was the scariest sight I guess I’ve probably ever seen.”
Hoggard lives in Butler County. She says the terrifying moments happened just after storm sirens went off.
She said she only had minutes to take cover.
“We calculated it up and we had 4 minutes from when the sirens went off and the warning was called to when we went into the bathroom and it was over with,” she said.
Emergency Management Director Robbie Myers says are working on plans to get to those families who are struggling.
“We are soon going to have resource agencies set up as a one-stop shop for families soon,” said Myers. “The devastation is extensive.”
Local storm spotters like Craig Meador say they are already preparing for the next round of storms.
“We are always training,” said Meador. “We have a fantastic team.”
Assistant field coordinator, Keith Berry says it’s extremely important to be weather aware.
“I can’t stress enough how much you need to have a weather radio,” said Berry.
