Morning showers for the Fourth, clear for fireworks
With showers and thunderstorms beginning to move out of the region for the evening we now shift our focus over to Independence day. There is currently a flash flood watch in effect until early morning on Friday. We are expecting several bands of showers and thunderstorms to move through the area before then, which could bring areas of localized flooding.
Models are showing our next chance of seeing showers shortly after sunrise on Thursday.
A few of these storms could be severe, because of this the Storm Prediction Center has us under a slight risk for severe weather with the main threat anticipated to be damaging winds.
Storms are expected to clear out of the region around noon, leaving us clear for the rest of the day! Hot and humid conditions are expected during the afternoon, be prepared with plenty of water and a plan to take breaks inside if needed.
High temperatures across the area are expected to be in the upper 80s and lower 90s. Forecast dewpoints are sitting in the upper 70s, leaving us feeling very humid.
The high dewpoints will drive heat index values into the triple digits for the Fourth.
We have another chance of showers shortly after midnight on Friday, before clearing out for most of the weekend. The storm chance returns for the first half of next week, with forecast highs in the mid to upper 80s.
