Hot, Humid, Storm Chances for Sunday
Heat and humidity will be one of two mainstays in the forecast for the rest of the weekend and into the start of next week. A Heat Advisory is in effect until Tuesday evening with feels-like temperatures up to 105° each afternoon.
The second thing we are monitoring will be another chance for showers and storms on Sunday afternoon. The latest run of StormCast shows storm chances increasing during the afternoon hours. Severe potential is low, but localized downpours and lightning could still disrupt any outdoor plans.
Lows tonight will be on the warm side of mid-July as overnight temperatures only fall into the mid-70s.
Partly cloudy skies for the rest of Saturday into early Sunday for the Cape Girardeau area. One or two showers may linger into the overnight hours, but otherwise we should stay dry.
Sunday afternoon features highs near average for the Heartland with light winds. Air temperatures are expected to reach the lower 90s.
It will not take long for warm temperatures to arrive in Cape on Sunday. We reach the lower 80s by 9 a.m. and will be into the upper 80s by lunch.
With high levels of humidity across the region, heat indices will reach the upper 90s to lower triple digits. Be sure to hydrate throughout the day, take breaks from the heat and monitor yourself and others for signs of heat illness.
Temperatures peak on Tuesday as daily chances of showers and thunderstorms fade by midweek. We return to the middle and upper 80s with mostly sunny skies to round out the work week.
