Veterans gather at Stars and Stripes Museum for extension celebration
BLOOMFIELD Mo. (KBSI) – Veterans gather to celebrate the add on of the Stars and Stripes Museum. This museum was gifted four military vehicles to show on display as well as more room for more historical artifacts.
“We are putting on a 3300 square-foot addition to the museum. We were gifted tour World War II military vehicles, and we were being kept in the barn right now, but we wanted to have more visitors be able to see them so our addition will be ADA compliant and more visitors will be able to see those four vehicles.”
Laura Dumey is the executive Director at the Stars and Stripes Museum talks about the importance of this place for the Veterans and the key piece that stands out this museum.
“Are we also our place for veterans, and they have read this newspaper and they talk about what they did when they were in the service or what how this newspaper is so important to them. It was their link to home. It was there told him how to make rank it taught them about the cultures of the country they were in the newspaper is so important and we have the repository for the hardcopies of this newspaper.”
Michael Penney is on the board of the Director at the Stars and Stripes Museum. He says the Newspaper was so important to the men because it was a key piece of news sent from home.
“Preserving histories is the big thing you know yes, that the newspaper, the Stars Stripes Newspaper published for all the wars in our history of our country. My father was a World War II combine inventory, and he had mentioned one time that besides letters from home, the newspaper was his only touch to the real world back in the states so we meant a lot to him.”
Michael Penney says it means a lot to him and his family to see the museum grow.
“Yes you know, my father in all the veterans whether it be in the World War I, the World War II Korean Vietnam, the modern air, you know sadly the veterans from World War II and career all very elderly and which is one of the things we wanted to build this expansion.”
