Schools nationwide receiving violent threats from students

SCOTT CITY Mo. (KBSI) – With school shootings taking headlines across the country there is a nationwide spread of threats in schools after trouble surfaced on Facebook.

Kids apparently are saying things that are scaring other students and parents in local school districts.

After seeing the tragic shooting that took place in Georgia parents are concerned that something like that could happen here.

Now local parents are taking their concern to social media by voicing in groups on Facebook that they are keeping their kids home from school because they are too worried about dropping their kid off where they cannot see or hear what is going on.

Chris Griggs The Chief of Police for Scott City says he understands why parents are keeping their kids out of schools and why events are being canceled as any threat is taken very seriously.

“You know you have a child in school the last thing a parent wants to worry about is if something is going to happen in school when their child is there.”

As a result of the threats, Griggs says he is informing local parents in Scott City.

Griggs is working with the Superintendent in school to make sure the Police Department is notified now and throughout the school year if someone doesn’t feel safe.

“I was in direct communication with the superintendent of Scott city schools regarding these threats. He issued a statement on behalf of the school to the parents into other colleagues as far as what was what was happening what was said and what we’ve done to look through that.”

Griggs thinks that in todays time there is more games, movies, and language that kids are learning which are causing some issues like the one they addressed two days ago.

No matter what is said inside the schools the police want to be notified and are making routine rounds in their day to check on local schools.

“Talk of different video games and I think some of that language is some of the conversation that led to some of the things you can do video games and kind of I think it was overheard by some may have been taken out of context, but regardless, we got the information we as we do other ones.”

We also spoke with some parents that did not want to go on camera but voiced their concern that school is not like it was before.

The school year kicked off about two weeks ago and they are already seeing issues like this.

They are voicing their concerns on Facebook and are hoping for a safer rest of the year.
