BAM! Challenge to be a part of someone’s miracle

(KBSI) — The Disaster Pastor, Scott Shipman created the Just Help One Nonprofit Organization to aid those affected by natural disasters. It’s a faith-based disaster response group he’s building from the ground up.
“Just Help One ” is providing a curtail aid to families in need. Scott Shipman, founder of the nonprofit group “Just Help One,” is on the front lines, helping rebuild lives devastated by the storm.
“It’s interesting because, you know, usually people will ask, ‘What’s the worst disaster you’ve been in?’ And my answer is always: the one I’m in at the moment,” Shipman said, discussing his ongoing work.
Shipman’s organization, is a faith-based organization working to help impact the lives of those affected by the storm by discussing God’s word while fixing damages from the storm. Just Help One currently has three teams deployed across Tennessee, North Carolina, and Florida, offering support to communities hit hardest by the hurricane.
In Tennessee, where Shipman is currently working, severe flooding has left much damage. “We talked to a guy just a few minutes ago who’s lived here his entire life, and he said he’s never seen it like this,” Shipman said. Stories like these are becoming all too familiar, as homes remain flooded, with some filled with mold and gutted by the rising waters.
“One older couple who lives in a house trailer, they stayed as the water reached their porch. But they had to be airlifted out after the entire area flooded,” Shipman said.
Across the area, first responders and volunteers are hard at work, providing much-needed aid. Shipman’s teams are clearing debris, mucking out homes, and distributing supplies. In Florida, they’re using chainsaws to remove fallen trees, while in North Carolina, they focus on restoring homes filled with flood damage.
While material resources like food and water are critical, Shipman believes the most important service they offer is emotional and spiritual support while preaching God’s word. That’s why some coined Shipman the “Disaster Pastor.”
“We try to do what we can to help them spiritually,” Shipman said. “We talk with them, we pray with them, we listen to them, you know, just try to do what we can to help them.”
