The City of Jackson prioritizes pedestrian safety with new crosswalk signs

JACKSON, Mo., (KBSI)- Maintaining the safety of Jackson’s streets remains a top priority, whether residents are driving or walking to local parks, restaurants, or shops.

To enhance pedestrian safety, the Jackson Street Department recently installed two new crosswalk signs in uptown Jackson.

Located at the intersections of W. Main St. with High St. and Russell Ave., these signs serve as vital reminders for motorists to be vigilant for pedestrians.

According to state law, drivers must stop when a pedestrian enters any crosswalk marked with white stripes or bars.

The signs also caution pedestrians to exercise caution and ensure traffic is clear before crossing the street.

“The safety of our residents and visitors is of utmost importance,” said city officials. “We urge all drivers and pedestrians to exercise caution and respect each other’s right of way.”

Key Safety Reminders:

  • – Motorists: Yield to pedestrians in marked crosswalks.
    – Pedestrians: Ensure traffic is clear before crossing.

By prioritizing pedestrian safety, the City of Jackson aims to create a secure and enjoyable environment for everyone.
