Road rage incident turned into a roadway shootout

CARBONDALE, Ill. (KBSI) – Several people have been arrested after a road rage incident turned into a shoot-out.

According to the Carbondale Police Department on October 25, at 8:48 pm officers with the Carbondale Police Department responded to the 300 block of East Grand Avenue for a report of a traffic crash and shots fired. The Southern Illinois University Department of Public Safety also responded.

Officers conducted an investigation that led to them finding damage to one of the vehicles from a gunshot, but no one was injured.

A handgun was recovered and officers learned that the situation began with a road rage incident that started on Southern Illinois Avenue between parties that did not know one another and three vehicles were involved.

Officers arrested one of the involved parties identified as, Mohommad J. Muhammad age 28 of Matairie, Louisiana.

Muhammad is facing charges of Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm and Unlawful Use of a Weapon.

All other parties were released without charges.

Mohammad was arrested and taken to the Jackson County Jail.
