16-year-old shot; juvenile arrested and released

CARBONDALE, Ill. (KBSI) – A juvenile was arrested and released after another juvenile was shot.

According to the Carbondale Police Department on November 20, 2024, around 10:36 pm officers responded 300 block of South Marion Street for a report of a person who had been shot.

Officers made contact with the victim, age 16 of Carbondale, with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

The victim was transported to the emergency room for medical treatment.

During the investigation, officers learned four juveniles who loosely new each other were mishandling a firearm which resulted in the victim getting shot accidentally.

The firearm was recovered by officers and found it had been reported stolen out of a vehicle in Carbondale.

The juvenile male who fired the shot was arrested for Reckless Discharge of a Firearm and released to parents after consulting with the Jackson County State’s Attorney’s Office.

This investigation is ongoing.
