Two females taken into custody after a vehicle pursuit with a stolen car from Edina Minnesota

SIKESTON Mo. (KBSI) – The scene unfolding as people were on their way to work on Interstate 55.
Police tell us a car chase happened after two women who are now in custody backed up traffic.
The two women were discovered driving a stolen 2024 Red Mazda all the way from Edina Minnesota.
Sikeston Police say they had to pull over the stolen vehicle which then led into a car chase.
A busy morning on the roadway people is heading to work and school amid some unusual excitement that causes havoc.
This incident went down after a car was stolen in central Sikeston early Thursday morning near Main and Malone Street.
Captain of Sikeston Patrol Division Jon Broom explains how police were tipped off.
“Actually, picked up one of our flock cameras that alerts us to stolen vehicles or endangered persons like that. So, we received that alert that there was a stolen vehicle, and then the officer was alerted to that vehicle and then responded to the location that was last seen,” said Broom.
Broom says once Police activated emergency lights and attempted to stop the vehicle police say the car pulled over and stopped in a private parking lot. When police got out of the car to go up to the stolen vehicle the driver took off heading east.
Broom says that’s when his officers and other departments teamed up to stop the car.
“They went south on Interstate 55, which is a 66-mile marker, and they were able to get that vehicle stopped at the 53-mile marker. Highway Patrol assisted us in this vehicle pursuit, along with the Howard County Sheriff’s Department and the Minor Police Department. The Missouri State Highway Patrol was actually able to deploy their spike strips and deflate two of the tires, which helped the vehicle come to a stop,” said Broom.
Broom says luckily no officers were hurt but there were some minor damages to a Minor Police vehicle.
Two females in the stolen car were taken into custody. They face multiple felony charges including resisting arrest.
Broom says the Interstate was backed up for a few minutes but quickly cleaned up.
“The interstate was shut down for just a few minutes until we could get the vehicle out of the roadway and things like that. traffic backed up a little bit, but we were able to get that cleared pretty quickly and get traffic moving again,” said Broom.
