Illinois residents urged to sign up for health insurance before Jan. 15 deadline

SOUTHERN Ill., (KBSI)- Illinois residents without health insurance have until Jan. 15 to enroll in a plan through the Get Covered Illinois Health Insurance Marketplace.

The Illinois Department of Insurance is encouraging residents to visit (link unavailable) to access free enrollment assistance and sign up for a quality, affordable plan.

“Financial assistance is available for qualified consumers, and a majority of consumers can find health plans on the Marketplace for $10 or less a month,” said IDOI Director Ann Gillespie.

The American Rescue Plan Act has expanded Marketplace tax credits through 2025, making health coverage more affordable for thousands of Illinois residents and families.

Coverage for consumers who enroll by the Jan. 15 deadline will begin on Feb. 1. Illinoisans who experience a qualifying life event, such as losing job-based coverage or having a child, can still enroll in coverage after Open Enrollment ends.
