Biden-Harris Administration invests $1.5 million in Kentucky health centers
KENTUCKY (KBSI)- The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) announced a $1.5 million investment to support health centers in Kentucky, enabling them to expand their operating hours and improve access to healthcare services.
Three HRSA-funded community health centers in Kentucky, serving over 201,900 people, will receive funding to add early morning, night, and weekend hours. This expansion will provide new options for patients who struggle with transportation, childcare, and other issues during typical business hours.
The funding will help address common challenges in accessing healthcare, such as taking a child to the doctor after work or getting a timely appointment on weekends. It will also connect patients to preventive services and resources for health-related social needs, improving health outcomes.
HRSA Administrator Carole Johnson emphasized that this investment recognizes the day-to-day realities of working families across the country.
“Having the option to get to the doctor before or after work or on the weekend not only helps families get the care they need, but it also helps relieve some of the stress and burden on families trying to arrange care,” she said.
The expanded services in Kentucky will include medical, dental, mental health, substance use disorder, vision, enabling, and pharmacy services. Health centers will announce their new hours of operation and clinical services in their community service areas.
“Our hope is that this first round demonstrates how important this work is, and that this will continue to grow to more and more health centers throughout Missouri and Kentucky and throughout the region, in the years ahead,” Johnson said.
