Missouri transfers $3.25M from medical marijuana program to veterans commission

MISSOURI, (KBSI)— The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services transferred $3.25 million from the state’s medical marijuana program to the Missouri Veterans Commission this week.
The transfer brings the total funds allocated to the commission from the medical marijuana program to $49,728,820 since its inception.
Missouri voters approved Constitutional Amendment 2 in November 2018, which mandates that fees and taxes generated by the medical marijuana program be transferred to the commission for veterans’ health and care services, minus operational expenses.
Medical marijuana sold in licensed dispensaries is taxed at a 4% rate, according to Article XIV of the state constitution.
Since dispensary sales began in October 2020, medical sales have surpassed $1 billion.
This transfer does not include funds from the adult-use cannabis program. More information on sales and fund transfers can be found at Data and Reports | Cannabis Regulation | Health Services Regulation | Health & Senior Services or in the latest Missouri Medical and Adult Use Cannabis Annual Report.
