Apartment fire closes North Clark Street in Cape

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) – Firefighters have extinguished a fire in the 100 block of Clark Street.
The Cape Girardeau Fire Department responded to an emergency call about an apartment fire on the 100 block of Clark Street at 1:50 PM, Wednesday.
According to fire officials, there were visible flames coming from a lower apartment window when they arrived on scene.
They also saw a person at the window of a second-floor apartment. Firefighters deployed a ladder to rescue two individuals trapped within the building.
All residents within the building were accounted for and none required medical assistance.
Fire officials say the firefighters were able to rapidly suppress the flames. After extinguishing the fire they conducted thorough overhaul and ventilation procedures to verify that the fire didn’t spread to adjacent units.
Cape Girardeau firefighters received mutual aid support from multiple agencies including, the Jackson, Gordonville, Fruitland, Benton, and Chaffee Fire Departments.
After investigating, the Cape Girardeau Fire Marshal determined that the fire was caused by a cooking-related incident.
