Murray State University cancels classes due to weather aftermath

MURRAY, Ky. — Murray State University canceled classes on Monday, Feb. 17, due to the aftermath of a weekend weather event, but campus operations continued as scheduled.

All offices were open during normal hours, and employees reported to work as usual.

However, the Bauernfeind Wellness Center was closed.

Dining operations, including Winslow Dining Hall, Fast Track, and Chick-Fil-A, were open as normal.

The Curris Center and Waterfield Library also operated on a regular schedule.

The university reported that full electrical power was restored to campus on Sunday, except for the CFSB Center, Wellness Center, RH White, and Regents Halls.

Some buildings may have experienced cooler temperatures.

Crews worked around the clock to resolve electrical issues after a lightning strike caused a power outage early Saturday morning.

The university expressed appreciation for the patience of students and staff during the weather event, which impacted the campus, region, and state.

Thoughts and prayers were extended to those affected by the weather incident, including those who lost their lives.

Updates on campus operations were provided through the Racer Alert system, campus emails, text messages, the Racer Alert web page, and Murray State social media.
