CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — A Southeast Missouri State University instructor has been placed on administrative leave after his arrest following an altercation over the weekend.

Jonathan Kessler, 38, is charged with unlawful use of a weapon, domestic assault and endangering the welfare of a child, according to online court documents.

A university spokesperson said Kessler has been issued a Notice Against Trespass and the university will cooperate with local authorities as needed.

Tess Rainey, with Southeast Missouri State University says,

“The University is greatly troubled and concerned by the allegations and charges brought against Dr. Jonathan Kessler. He has been placed on administrative leave. A Notice Against Trespass has also been issued to Dr. Kessler. Given the confidential nature of personnel records and out of respect for the prosecution in the on-going case, the University will respond and cooperate with local prosecuting authorities and law enforcement as needed and requested. Therefore, at this time we have no further comment on this matter.

Kessler is accused of dragging a victim by the arm and pointing a 12-gauge shotgun at them, according to a criminal complaint. He is being held at the Cape Girardeau County Jail on a $30,000 bond.
